If you
are satisfied with the size of your breasts but wish to
restore a more youthful contour you may be a candidate for a
breast lift. If you have lost a considerable amount of
volume in your breasts you may also want to consider having
breast implants inserted at this time. Though some women
decide to have their breasts lifted before having children,
your plans to breast feed in the future should be discussed
with the doctor.
Two
incisions are used to lift the breast: one around the
areola, the second vertically from the bottom edge of the
areola to the crease under the breast. With larger breasts a
third incision may be necessary along the natural curve of
the breast crease. Breast tissue and fat are removed, the
nipple and areola are moved to a higher position and the
tissue is pulled together to give a new shape to the breast.
Liposuction may also be used to contour the fat under the
arm. Because the nipples and areolas remain attached to the
breast tissue, sensation in this area is preserved. A
support bra is worn for a few weeks after surgery. It is
often possible to return to work within a couple of weeks
although some mild discomfort may be felt up to eight weeks
after surgery.
